Resistant capital draws on the collective power and action of minoritized communities who have experienced educational inequities. In the spirit of the AERA 2024 conference theme, Dismantling Racial Injustice and Constructing Educational Possibilities: A Call to Action, this research offers an analysis of Black parent activism in urban schools through the lens of resistant capital. Drawing on insights and intersections within the Community Cultural Wealth model, this research examines how Black parents in a parent empowerment group have activated and leveraged resistant capital in their children’s schools, both individually and collectively. Findings and implications of this study support the empowerment and action of Black parents who are advocates and leaders in challenging systemic institutions of injustice at their children’s schools.
