This study investigated first-generation (FGEN) college students’ perspectives on programs designed to aid their transitions and success. Third and fourth-year students (n = 541) at private institutions (n = 34) were studied. Results suggest programs influence academic and social experiences of FGEN students. Findings included 82% participation in a FGEN program; 95% of respondents suggest institution aided with efforts to persist, whereas 92% of respondents agree their institution has specific support programs for FGEN students. Conclusions include: a) FGEN students participate in campus programming at high rates; b) campus programs are impactful to FGEN students; c) Campus programs of various types create meaningful connections for FGEN students; and d) there is scope for improvement in program participation, awareness, and offerings.
