Blackout Rap Transcription takes the individual voices found in student written rap verses and combines them into a collective one, while reflecting on what the new data raps teach us about critical conscious learning both with, through, and as joy. This methodology is in the tradition of hip hopagraphy and leans into the critical hermeneutic philosophy, that the subjective identity and experience of the researcher is a tool to be used and appreciated in the analysis of new forms of data. Blackout Rap Transcription aims to discover what truths can be iterated in the rap songs students create that interviews cannot find, since music allows us to express feelings and ideas that mere words cannot convey.
