Fri, April 12, 7:45 to 9:15am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

The 21st-century skills (e.g., creativity, problem-solving) are essential for success in our complex and ever-changing world. Digital games are potential tools to foster these skills, as they can provide engaging and immersive learning environments that challenge and motivate players. This systematic review explores the literature on digital games and their effects on fostering the 21st-century skills. We searched several databases and selected 81 studies for our final review. We categorized the studies based on the game genres, the game design elements, and the 21st-century skills. Our preliminary findings show that digital games can enhance some of the 21st-century skills by providing engaging and immersive learning experiences that challenge and motivate players. Our findings are summarized in this proposal.
