College Students' Moral Judgments and Their Relationship to Behavior Choices in Academic Tasks

Abstract

This study explored college students’ judgments of academic behaviors and their willingness to engage in behaviors. Specific attention was given to the degree of consistency between student judgments and willingness to engage. Twenty-five undergraduate students were presented with academic vignettes and asked to predict their own behavior and judge a target behavior as dishonest or acceptable. Though they judged most behaviors as dishonest, students indicated that they would be willing to participate in some of the behaviors. There was not a significant correlation between student judgment and action.
