Educational leaders require effective strategies to address localized problems. Leadership coaching is an effective approach to developing school leaders’ abilities to enact such strategies. Yet, leaders in rural and high-poverty schools typically have little access to leadership coaches. In this article, we explore the development of experienced school leaders as coaches for less experienced leaders from rural and high-poverty schools to utilize improvement science to affect positive change. We highlight how providing coaching education in a leadership coaching community (LCC) prepared 14 coaches for their new roles. The experiences of leadership coaches in the LCC illustrate the transformative potential of developing leadership coaches as a powerful strategy for enhancing school leadership development.
