Marginalized students face the impacts of mass incarceration from multiple sources in their educational experience. This article traces the interconnected system of oppression in schools following the rise of mass incarceration and the negative impacts on marginalized students. While mass incarceration has a multitude of impacts on student wellbeing and success, this paper focuses on the role of Zero Tolerance policies, the rise school policing, and parental incarceration to demonstrate that mass incarceration starts in schools and sets students down the School-to-Prison Pipeline.
