Hazing is associated with physical and emotional harm, and detrimentally affects the college student success and outcomes. However, there is no validated measure of college students’ hazing experiences. The purpose of our study was to develop and validate the multi-factor College Student Organization New Member Hazing Experiences Scale (NMHES). Using Rasch modeling, we developed and validated the NHMES with four subscales, physical, verbal, social isolation and social cohesion hazing. The NMHES may be of great interest to scholars and practitioners, particularly those interested in understanding and addressing the effects of hazing experiences on college student success and outcomes.
