This paper presents an empirical investigation of human-AI interaction through the analysis of a story completion exercise which asked participants to describe a learning agreement between an AI instructor and a learner twenty years into the future. Drawing on qualitative data we examine the implications of employing theories of relationality, as described by Indigenous scholars, to better understand and analyze imagined relationships of human-AI interactions. The research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the evolving relationship between humans and artificial intelligence by highlighting the importance of relationality as a lens for interpreting and comprehending these interactions, and noting the presence of two perspectives: AI as a tool and AI as a subject.
