Crossing Boundaries in a Professional Learning Community for Curriculum Design Coherence

Sun, April 14, 3:05 to 4:35pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

K-12 teachers from four school districts participated in a professional learning community to design curriculum that integrated content areas to make the curriculum more inclusive, increase student engagement, and foster critical thinking. This qualitative case study explored teachers’ collaborative curriculum design process and how teachers identified the most appropriate places for integrating their curriculum. Results showed that teachers shared ideas and evaluated their curriculum across grade levels and content areas, made thematic connections, and made text selections foster student learning experiences.
