Dismantling racial injustice requires the development of educational leaders who recognize the policies, programs, and practices that embrace diversity and promote equity in schools. This study uses focus group and document data from eight urban school districts to describe five key activities educators identify as components of equity-centered leadership practice: building relationships; focusing on teaching and learning; caring for staff; allocating resources; and connecting with families and communities. We then discuss how to articulate these key activities into viable pathways for action in future work. Hopefully, this work will help guide equity-centered leaders integrate theory with specific examples of practice in their own work.
