The Learning Health Care System Ethics Framework was developed by Faden and Kass to assess how research and patient care can be ethically employed within a learning health system. This framework describes learning activities, which are activities designed to improve patient care and the health system as a whole. Faden and Kass describe ethical obligations that need to be considered in a learning health system, the parties responsible for upholding these obligations, and examples of learning activities that fall within each obligation. However, a key party left out of their framework is learners. We provide a justification for including learners within their ethics framework and examples of learning activities in each of the seven proposed ethical obligations.
