Critical “ImPACCT”: Effortful Re-Humanization of Black Youth Through Protection, Affection, Correction, and Connection Transactions

Sat, April 13, 3:05 to 4:35pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

Protection, Affection, Correction, and Connection Transactions (PACCT) denotes a theoretical framework for combating the deleterious effects of race-based dehumanization of Black youth. PACCT was first introduced by Stevenson et. al, (2001), and has been featured in various studies and interventions to help parents, educators, and clinicians promote the biopsychosocial wellbeing of urban Black youth. The PLAAY (Preventing Long term Anger and Aggression in Youth) Project was an intervention aimed at “at-risk” Black youth aged 10-19 (Stevenson, 2002). This study aims to expound upon the PACCT framework in relation to videos from the PLAAY Project as our primary source. Our goal is to outline the framework which serves as the primary mediating factor in the expression of promotive participant outcomes.
