Drawing upon methodology rooted in a qualitative metasynthesis, this paper presents a conceptual model of the relationship between literacy activities and agency by analyzing 29 studies investigating how agency is enacted across literacy learning environments. This analysis identifies how ideological and relational resources, institutional constructs and material artifacts mediate how agency is enacted with, against and through literacy activities.
