Texas College Presidents’ Awareness of the Challenges of Latino/x Men Faced During COVID-19

Fri, April 12, 3:05 to 4:35pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

This qualitative study explored the level of awareness of six Texas college presidents about Latino/x men during COVID-19. Relying on Greenleaf’s servant leadership trait of wisdom, we found that these leaders stated that they became more aware that these students faced difficult enrollment decisions, challenges balancing work and academics, and declining mental health wellness. The findings suggest that campus leaders need to develop greater servant leadership wisdom to lead their institutions to help all students, especially college-going Latino/x men, in a myriad of ways to thrive in a post COVID-19 pandemic era.
