This study presents an analysis of students’ application narratives to an inclusive postsecondary college program as a source of data that offers insight into what students labeled with intellectual/developmental disability are expecting of their college experience. Researchers examined 22 written application narratives submitted as part applications to a program between 2017-2023. We report on three themes. Students expressed that: 1) Attending college is part of an expected trajectory; 2) College expands social circles; and 3) Taking courses is a central part of college. Paying close attention to applicant expectations, goals, and aspirations for attending college should inform the types of opportunities and services Comprehensive Transition Programs endeavor to offer.
