Teachers' Joy and Anger: Situational Interrelations With Achievement Goals (Poster 42)

Thu, April 11, 4:20 to 5:50pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

In their work life, teachers experience different situations, which can be accompanied by various emotions and several goals. Previous theories proposed interrelations between emotions and goals via control- and value-appraisals. However, these interrelations were only tested at the between-person level without considering these appraisals. The aim of the present study was to investigate interrelations between emotions and goals experienced in work situations at the within- and between-level, with control- and value-appraisals as moderators. 169 teachers participated in a diary study for sixteen days. The findings emphasize considering interrelations at the within-level, as results differed from the between-level. Control- and value-appraisals did not moderate the interrelations. At an educational level, interventions for teachers ought to be executed at the individual level.
