School-University-Community Partnerships: Building Trust and Reciprocal Partnerships Pre-, During, and Post-Pandemic (Poster 5)

Fri, April 12, 7:45 to 9:15am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

Parent engagement in urban schools is essential to student success in urban communities. In historically low-income and hypersegregated communities, parents are often expected to participate in parent involvement activities aligned with middle-class norms instead of participating in activities that parents and school officials engage in two-way communication to collectively identify issues and solve challenges. This imitative sought to better understand the experiences, promises, and challenges educational stakeholders face in an asset-based parent engagement program that aims to build trust and reciprocal relationships in an underserved urban community. This study is significant because it provides a multidimensional understanding of nuances of trust in school-university-community relationships that are aimed at establishing trust and increasing parent engagement for vulnerable populations in underserved communities.
