Blended learning is gaining popularity; however, previous studies have produced inconsistent results. The purpose of this study is to synthesize the overall effects of blended learning on student engagement and examine the moderators of the overall effects. This study conducted a meta-analysis of 18 studies published between 2012 and 2022. Results showed that blended learning had a significantly moderate positive effect on improving student engagement compared to non-blended learning. Blended learning is more effective in engaging students than a non-blended learning format. The moderator analysis results imply that the overall effect may vary due to the specific implementation of educational context characteristics and research methodology. The scholarly significance was discussed.
