Filming Climate Change: Insights From an Action-Oriented Participatory Program With Upper-Elementary School Children (Poster 4)

Abstract

We developed and implemented an environmental education project on climate change, which aimed to introduce upper elementary school children to the scientific and social dimensions of climate change, as well as to engage them in empowering action through creating a short film on climate change. Data were collected through Word Associations and thematic analysis of the written scenarios and the films created by students. The project allowed to participatns to develop their own narrative for climate change. It also facilitated them to create connections with the global issue and their everyday reality. However, some students showed only superficial connection with the subject of the project calls which for forms of mentoring that will scaffold them without being advocative
