An ongoing community-school-university research partnership in Montreal seeks to to better understand, in order to support, the transition needs of youth from the city’s “alternative” school network. Bringing together education researchers; teachers from the alternative school network, leadership and staff from the youth employment network, and four youth who have graduated or otherwise left the network who serve as an Advisory Board, the partnership takes a Community Asset Mapping approach to what is working and what is needed. Findings include the value of structured improvisation in meeting diverse needs, and sustained, relational approaches.
