Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been around for a long time now. However, it wasn’t until recently when ChatGPT appeared in November 2022, that its use has been extensively discussed and questioned. The study evaluates the integration of AI in education, and specifically in enhancing students’ exercises in a distance learning course. It aims to identify the degree of use and interaction with the AI tool by 14 master’s students (pre- and in-service teachers) when ChatGPT was integrated within the teaching and learning practice. A case study approach was employed collecting qualitative data. The results focus on how the participants used the AI for their assignments, the perceived educational benefits of AI and its challenges in the teaching and learning process.
