We paired self-reported learner intentions with learner course interactions to examine learner intention-fulfillment in a massive open online course (MOOC). A chi-square test indicated a statistically significant difference in the final grades between learners who completed the pre-course survey and those who did not. A statistically significant difference was observed in the final grades between learners who expressed intention to earn a certificate and those who did not. A logistic regression revealed that predictors of successful course completion include both internal factors such as intention to enroll in a graduate program, employment status, familiarity with the topics in the course and external factors such as the connection with other learners and the instructor.
