A Reliability Generalization of the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking—Figural

Sun, April 14, 3:05 to 4:35pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

The Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking-Figural (TTCT-F) is a well-known measure of creativity, yet its reliability evidence is hardly reported in primary studies. Using parameter-based meta-analytic structural equation modeling, we examined the reliability of TTCT-F’s two factors (Innovative and Adaptive) by using correlations among TTCT-F indices. A reliability generalization study with 36 correlation matrices (N = 8,775) in 31 studies yielded acceptable composite reliability (ω = .82). The Innovative factor had higher reliability coefficients (ω = .88) than the Adaptive factor (ω = .62). Moderator analyses indicated reliability differences based on the TTCT-F form used. Composite scores and Innovative factor scores, particularly in Form A, were more precise than Adaptive Factor scores, supporting their use in research and practical settings.
