Sat, April 13, 3:05 to 4:35pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

Academic procrastination is a common, unfavorable behavior particularly prevalent in students with ADHD and those with a high fear of failure. The present study compares university students with diagnosed ADHD, self-reported ADHD symptoms, and no reported ADHD symptoms across academic procrastination and fear of failure using the Procrastination Assessment Scale for Students and Choi’s framework for measuring fear of failure. The results indicated that students with diagnosed or self-reported ADHD showed higher academic procrastination and learned helplessness than the control group. In addition to this, the self-reported group demonstrated higher overall fear of failure than the control group. Fear of failure was shown to moderately predict academic procrastination in the overall sample.
