There is extensive research on Latina/o/x high school students’ college choice process, but limited research has examined Latina/o/x community college students’ transfer choice process. In response, this qualitative case study examined the college choice process of 18 high-achieving Latina/o community college students who gained admission to a selective research-intensive university in the Southwest. Findings from this study suggest that Latina/o/x students have high transfer aspirations to attend selective 4-year institutions, and despite encountering various challenges along their journey, they persist and accomplish their transfer goals. Family, geography, finances, and institutional agents play a critical role in their decision-making process.
