This paper describes the first few years of collaborative journey and an analysis of the initial data from a collaborative approach including a university research team, a nearby school district, and a community arts organization who created a partnership to address the lack of access to quality arts education experiences for students from underserved populations. This partnership, funded by a Department of Education Assistance for Arts Education grant, endeavors to provide opportunities that elevate young learners to explore their culture and validate students’ expression of their personal cultural identity. To accomplish this, the team is focusing on three distinct areas, teachers, students, and the community, by expanding arts-based educational programming in schools on the south side of San Antonio, Texas.
