This research examines the influence of gender, student attitudes toward hard work, and teacher and parental support on grade retention among students using data from the 2018 Programme for International Students Assessment (PISA) student questionnaire. Employing logistic regression for analysis, the study found that greater teacher support was associated with a reduced probability of grade retention. Surprisingly, no significant effects of student attitudes toward hard work and parental support on grade retention were observed. Additionally, the analysis revealed no discernible gender differences in relation to grade retention. These findings underscore the paramount importance of fostering positive teacher-student relationships. By prioritizing supportive teacher-student interactions, educators can potentially mitigate grade retention rates and contribute to improved academic outcomes.
