This presentation uses data from two research projects to examine Latina teachers’ activism within the highly contentious spaces of Arizona and Wisconsin. Drawing from Sánchez’s (2019) conceptualization of Ethnography Across Borders (EAB), theories connected to the formation of racial projects (Omi & Winant, 2014), and frameworks that center subaltern agency within hegemonic conditions and spaces (Author 2, 2013), we demonstrate how teachers engage in social action and build community in ‘purple states.’ Further, we offer this presentation as an example of research that aligns with the conference theme germane to contesting racial domination.
