Fri, April 12, 4:55 to 6:25pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall B

Abstract

The political engagement of Black youth voters has been observed to be on the rise (Grofman et al., 1992; Wasow, 2020). However, there is limited understanding regarding the influence of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and the intersection of Black Power on the political development and socialization of Black young adults in college, particularly during their crucial period of becoming new voters. Therefore, the project's scope of work presents the possibility of producing transformative results in terms of comprehending the factors that impact the political socialization and engagement of students attending HBCUs. This study investigates the attitudes, perspectives, and influences of Black youth voters to gain an understanding of the importance of their political socialization at HBCUs.
