Sat, April 13, 3:05 to 4:35pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

During 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years, DISTRICT implemented the literacy curricula HMH (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) Into Reading across seventy-four elementary schools. Consistent with their commitment to providing usable information to support innovation, district leaders engaged in a research-partnership with UNIVERSITY to investigate this implementation. The resulting study was a joint effort between UNIVERSITY and the DISTRICT Research office (the Research Team) that also included direct engagement with district staff supporting school-level implementation. This paper reports on the implementation study which used the Concerns Based Adoption Model (CBAM) framework and diagnostic tools -- an approach designed study implementation of change or innovation in educational contexts (Hall & Hord, 2020). It also serves as an illustration of a productive practice-research partnership.
