Mixed methods case study is an important design for educational research that has been present in the literature for decades. Yet guidance for this complex design is sparse. This is particularly true for the sequential form of the mixed method case study design. Of particular interest is the role of integration in this design, which can be superficial, and how theory may support more complete integration. This presentation offers evidence of and guidance for using Integration to Theory, an integrative approach that can be leveraged in well-designed sequential mixed methods case studies. As such this presentation offers guidance to inform future theoretically oriented sequential mixed methods case study designs and offers new insights on integration in general.
