Abstract

Teach Chicago Tomorrow (TCT) is a collaborative effort between three institutions to recruit and prepare annual cohorts of Chicago Public School (CPS) graduates to become teachers in the district. While other Grow Your Own (GYO) teacher initiatives in Illinois have focused on recruiting and preparing non-traditional teacher candidates, TCT aims to attract Black and Latinx high school students to the teaching profession. Our research focuses on this collaborative effort designed to dismantle racial injustice and construct educational possibilities in all levels of schooling. In this paper we discuss student recruitment and the practices that have evolved since the inception of the project three years ago.
