Qualitative research has revealed that choice preferences among students of different racial backgrounds might be more similar than previously thought. Even with plenty of qualitative work that has shown that decision-making preferences might be similar and still lead to different choice sets, quantitative evidence on this matter remains scarce. To contribute to this gap, I use rank-ordered logistic regression to investigate what are the factors associated with school preference and whether these factors vary conditioned on racial background. I find that there is a race-matching mechanism for students of all races analyzed in this paper and that this might be a cause for school segregation in NYC.
