While there may be intuition around how U.S. postsecondary institutions are meeting the racial enrollment thresholds of two or more Minority-Serving Institution (MSI) designations (e.g., meeting dual eligibility as an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI) and Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI)), detailed descriptions of these dual/multiple MSIs remain largely unknown, including how many institutions meet eligibility for more than one MSI, what combinations of dual/multiple MSIs exist, where they are concentrated, what institutional types are represented, and whether dual/multiple MSIs has grown over time. Examining institutional characteristics and diversity amongst and within dual/multiple MSIs makes the existence of these particular MSIs visible and allows for more meaningful comparisons across MSIs.
