Considering the growth of online learning, there is a need to understand whether and how culturally relevant pedagogy (CRP) may be integrated. Researchers have investigated the importance of CRP for students of color in traditional classrooms, but we know very little about CRP in online learning. Given the prominence of Khan Academy in online learning, this study investigates how, if at all, culturally relevant practices are integrated into its platform. We use quantitative methods to analyze Khan Academy’s 328 Algebra 1 videos. Analyses are informed by a rubric that draws from Darling-Aduana, Good, and Geraghty’s (2020) Online Course Curricular Relevance and Responsivity Protocol. The research findings suggest that Khan Academy's Algebra 1 does not encompass all elements of CRP.
