Exploring Leadership Skills and Practice Among ECE (Early Care and Education) Leaders Using the Leadership Practices Inventory (Poster 30)

Sun, April 14, 7:45 to 9:15am, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

In comparison to the K-12 educational sector, much less is known about the nature of leadership in early care and education (ECE). Though there are few studies on who ECE leaders are and their leadership practices, there are increasing calls to do so, and to develop measures of their practice (e.g., The ExCELS study). ExCELS emphasizes the study of 1) who leaders are; 2) what leaders bring to their roles; and 3) what they do to support quality outcomes (Douglass et al., 2023). The purpose of this study was to build on these first two objectives, through an analysis of the leadership practices of a national sample of both ECE and K-12 leaders using descriptive and latent class analysis (LCA).
