Following widespread protests for racial equality in the United States in response to the murder of George Floyd and other Black citizens, an extensive public debate has resurfaced around the best political and civic engagement strategies to pursue greater racial equality. Conducting within-group analyses on the intersection of race and gender in terms of literacy skill, political efficacy, and civic engagement for the Black adult population can lead to more socially and culturally sustaining adult civic education programs and policies that promote civic and political engagement and foster racial equity in communities as well as societies, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach . Therefore, the current quantitative study documents associations between Black adults’ information-processing skills and civic engagement.
