In this paper, I explore how educators have advanced justice through a range of social movements. I offer case studies of four major educator movements - the Opt Out Movement, the Red for Ed Movement, the Black Lives Matter at School Movement, and the Movement for Social Justice Unionism - discussing how educators in these movements have advanced justice inside and outside of the classroom, as well as individually and collectively, using both new and traditional organizing tactics. These case studies are analyzed in relation to major frameworks for understanding teacher activism within social foundations of education scholarship, emphasizing the significance and breadth of educators’ work to advance justice through social movements.
