We examined design considerations, design processes, implementation, and outcomes of an initiative to include Extended Reality (XR)-enhanced activities at scale. We focus on an activity designed for a Public Speaking Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) designed to facilitate immersive experiences for global audiences. The goal of this multi-case study is to share effective approaches to XR-integration at scale with practitioners, researchers, and education professionals. We share our preliminary findings of the first design case where a multi-expertise team designed an interactive XR activity using 360° videos to practice public speaking. Design artifacts and focus group interviews with learning professionals revealed many challenges, such as implications of designing for an unknown audience and absence of required affordances in the e-authoring tool.
