Prior research documents the negative impact of teacher turnover on various students and outcomes, but has yet to comprehensively examine its influence on school-family interactions. Using administrative and parent survey data from NYC, this study examines the extent to which mid- and end-of-year teacher turnover affects families’ trust in teachers and engagement in their child’s schooling. The study spotlights families as key stakeholders and contributes to both teacher turnover and parent engagement literature. With an acceleration of teachers leaving their positions in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic, this study is a call to policymakers and school leaders alike to consider ways in which to maintain levels of family engagement amidst the destabilizing forces of teacher turnover in schools.
