Narrowing Achievement Gaps: Promising Findings of an Online Math Work Support Intervention in Middle School (Poster 34)

Sat, April 13, 3:05 to 4:35pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

A follow-up study was conducted to examine the possible long-term impacts of an online math learning and support platform one year after the intervention was over. Students received intervention when they were in 7th grade. The research team tracked this 7th-grade student cohort when they entered 8th grade. At the end of 8th grade, the research team conducted the analyses and discovered that the treatment students scored significantly higher than those in the control group. More importantly, while the intervention benefited all students, it helped the students of color (particularly Hispanic students) more than White students. These findings suggest the long-term impacts of the intervention on math learning, and the intervention helped reduce the achievement gaps among ethnic groups.
