The author uses theory in the flesh, imbued by women of color (AnzaldĂșa & Moraga, 1981) and Black feminisms (Bey, 2019) to make visible the material conditions of the lives of collaborators in a study exploring the loving practices of trans people of color. Theorizing in the flesh illuminates contradictions and tensions of out-of-school supports for queer and trans young people of color as sites of possibility. Through animating the learning that happens in-between formal education spaces and across identity lines, the author advances attunement and relationality as critical components for just research.
