The Role of Racial Congruence in Early Educator-Child Linguistic Interactions: Implications for African American Learners (Poster 11)

Thu, April 11, 4:20 to 5:50pm, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Floor: Level 200, Exhibit Hall A

Abstract

The current study examined the contribution of racial congruence, as defined by Alexander, Entwisle and Thompson p. 666), on young children’s speech/language production. McGregor et al (1997) highlights how racially congruent educators, familiar with AAE, accurately differentiate between children with AAE speech patterns and children experiencing speech differences.
