Disciplinary alternative schools and programs are those for students expelled, suspended, and otherwise excluded from traditional schooling. Utilizing semi-structured interviews, I apply an “orthopediature” theoretical framework based in Foucault’s Discipline and Punish (1977) to understand the ways teachers in disciplinary alternative programs (DAP/s) self-impose their position as the ones to be the corrective measure ascribed to students placed in DAPs.
