This integrative literature review examines the extent of a teacher shortage in CTE, how it is being assessed, the differences by discipline, strategies to address shortages, and the outcomes of the shortage. This integrative review comprehensively examined the field, including secondary and postsecondary settings. The analysis of this study was framed by the Human Capital Theory, and identifies inadequate teacher preparation, low compensation, high job demands, limited professional development, and unfavorable working conditions as key factors exacerbating the shortage. Potential interventions include improved teacher training, competitive compensation, enhanced working conditions, and comprehensive professional development. The insights gained can inform program directors and educational institutions to craft effective strategies to tackle the CTE teacher shortage.
