Social support is essential to maintaining and sustaining an online learning community. However, little is known regarding how social support flows among students with different participation roles in online math learning. This study aimed to understand the social support dynamics among students in a math learning platform using educational big data and core-periphery structures. The results of this study shed light on possible mechanisms to sustain an online learning community, providing implications on instructional design.
