Abstract

Policies about reducing class size have been implemented in many countries in the past decades. However, little evidence is available for the effectiveness of reducing class size in China. The current study examined the reducing class size effect on tenth grade student mathematics achievement using an optimal multilevel matching strategy. We used Chinese sample from the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018. The reducing class size showed a negative effect on tenth grade student mathematics achievement. Finally, the importance and the plan for later study was mentioned. More variables will be available in the later analysis and the final paper will be reported with that more comprehensive dataset.
