Drawing on teacher burnout and wellness scholarship, our interview study centers on the experiences and perspectives of ten teacher candidates who face financial barriers while in a teacher preparation program. We use wellness factors from the Myers & Sweeney (2004) wellness model to situate candidates’ financial constraints and decision-making. Our findings show that the financial challenges candidates experience impact their ability to maintain balance and overall wellness, making them susceptible to burnout.
