This study investigates an innovative AI-powered pedagogy for second language pronunciation instruction that integrates a Large Language Model (ChatGPT) and Agile model. Evidence from a six-week experimental study conducted among 84 university students in China substantiates the potential effectiveness of this AI-aided, Agile approach. The study collected read-aloud and extemporaneous speech data in a pretest, a mid-test, a posttest, and a delayed posttest. Speech samples were analyzed by human raters. Results showed statistically significant improvement in pronunciation among the experimental group compared to a traditional instruction group, across both read-aloud tasks and spontaneous speech. The findings underscore the potential of AI in creating customized teaching materials and the benefits of the Agile approach in second language pronunciation teaching and learning.
